Challenge

Challenges evaluating the production and fuel consumption impact of a new crusher design. Data and resourcing needed to be improved to forecast the effects of recent infrastructure decisions.

Solution

Cascadia Scientific Data Scientists built machine learning models to isolate the impact of loaded vertical travel. A value for Fuel per LVM (loaded vertical meter) was determined and combined with the crusher height differential and the mine plan to produce the annual fuel impact predictions.

Results

It was determined that the cost of each additional vertical meter amounted to 0.18 litres of diesel or nearly 1.5 litres per truckload. With upwards of 200,000 loads per year, this represents an impact of over 300,000 litres and 819 Tonnes of CO2.
