Challenge
Difficult to measure the true impact of a diesel additive on overall haulage efficiency.
Solution
In collaboration with the mining prime and fuel provider, Cascadia Scientific conducted a fuel trial to measure the impact of a new diesel additive. The test was conducted in three phases and did not impact the operation. In the first phase, Cascadia Scientific developed a baseline model. In the second phase, half of the population remained as a control, with the other half receiving the diesel additive under consideration. Cascadia Scientific data scientists then modelled the impact of the new diesel additive, along with error bands and confidence levels in the result.
Results
Upon the trial’s completion, the diesel additive’s impact was centred at a 4% efficiency gain. The mine’s supply chain team has third-party, statistically significant data upon which to base its procurement decision.
