Cascadia Scientific Provides Award-Winning Technology Solutions for the Mining Industry

2023 Mining Technology EXPLORE program winner

Innovate BC Award

Cascadia Scientific received funding from the National Research Council of Canada, the Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC IRAP) and Innovate BC as part of the 2020-2021 Fast pilot program. The award supported the launch of Cascadia Scientific’s next-generation hardware platform, which was deployed to Teck’s Fording River Operation in eastern British Columbia. Innovate BC is a Crown Agency that supports the Government of British Columbia in delivering funding, expertise and connections to drive innovation and growth.

Imperial Technology Winner

In recognition of innovative excellence, Cascadia Scientific won 1st place in the 2022 Technology Challenge. Sponsored by Imperial Oil Limited and organized by the Consulate General of Canada, this challenge was implemented to discover technologies capable of improving the efficiency of Imperial’s Kearl Lake mining operation.

Hack Asia: Innovate the Sustainable Future

Cascadia Scientific won the Hack Asia 2022 challenge focused on reducing fuel consumption for heavy mining equipment. Hack Asia 2022 brought together individuals and teams from across the globe to prototype tech solutions that drive positive change and address sustainability challenges for mining operations.

INOVA AÍ: Innovation Program of USIMINAS Mineração

Usiminas is one of the largest producers of steel in the Americas. INOVA AI is an internal Usiminas competition designed to promote innovation. One thousand one hundred twenty projects were proposed across the Usiminas’ 5 companies; Cascadia Scientific won 1st place in the innovation challenge focused on mining. The project reduced diesel consumption by 50,000 liters, increased haulage efficiency by 4%, and reduced CO2 emissions by 117 tonnes.

Mining-Metallurgical Industry Excellence Award

Cascadia Scientific, in partnership with Caterpillar (Sotreq S/A), was awarded the Mining-Metallurgical Industry Excellence Award at the Revista Minérios & Minerales workshop in 2022. The award was granted for collaboration and excellence around “Road quality monitoring using onboard truck technologies and telemetry.”
